Christmas can be a very stressful period for many people. There are gifts to be bought trees to be put up and dinners to be cooked. There must be a way to make it through this most jolly of times without suffering from a minor breakdown, so we have had a hunt around to find some ideas on how to have a stress free Christmas.

Here at CYB we feel that the majority of stress over the Christmas period is caused by trying to do too much in a short period of time, so simplifying what you get up to is a sure fire way of helping to take some of the pressure off. Here are some simplifying suggestions.

  • Who are you buying presents for? – As much fun as it is to give gifts at Christmas it may be time to set a limit, everyone you know does not need a present from you, focus on immediate family. Obviously if you decide to announce your intentions in December this may come across as a bit cheap but if you mention in September or October people will be aware of your intentions and it won’t come as a surprise.
  • The Dinner Dilemma – Christmas dinner is usually cooked by a small selection of the family in one house, which can lead to stressful situations as it is  a huge job. It may not be as traditional but having a “pot luck” Christmas dinner would be a great way to share the workload as everyone brings something to the meal. It is also a bit easier on the wallet as you only need to purchase one part of the dinner.
  • The Shopping Situation – Let’s face it Christmas shopping can become more like a scrum than a shopping experience and I have yet to meet a single person that loves the busy hustling of shopping in December weather. Thankfully online shopping has come on leaps and bounds and is now so simple and convenient that you can take care of the shopping from your living room in front of the fire.
  • Remembering What Christmas Is About – There is a tendency for people to forget that all you need to celebrate Christmas is friends and family around you. Try to remember that it is not all about the presents and food but enjoying time with those who you care about.

Christmas is a great time of year that can bring out the jolly spirit in all of us. At the same time it can also be the catalyst that will see normal people shouting from the rooftops about a toy that they couldn’t find. You can make Christmas as complex as you want but remember that planning it out will always help things run that little bit smoother.

Do you have any tips or tricks to make the Christmas period that bit more enjoyable? Please let us know in the comments section below.
