I can do two styles of cooking – black or burnt. Sometimes I’m so good that I can combine the two in one meal. Since I’ve been left to fend for myself once again as my mum is away for three months, I’ll be attempting to try and cook again (or at least make something edible that doesn’t make me boke). So with my Jamie Oliver cookbook in one hand and plasters in the other, I’m ready.
Since my last attempts at this cooking malarkey, I’ve fallen in love with a TV show called Man Vs. Food. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a guy who travels around America, searching for epic eats. No salads here; unless it’s topped with a pound of fries, Ghost chili wings and a side order of steak.
So it’s had me thinking, what epic eats can I make of my own? I may as well have a bit of fun while trying not to set the kitchen alight (that reminds me I need to buy a fire extinguisher just in case). I’ve been scouring for ideas and recipes for my epic eats.
I’m starting with pizza first of all. I truly believe there’s no such thing as a bad pizza. Whether you have an authentic wood fire oven cooked slice from a pizzeria in Italy or one from the local supermarket that costs a quid; it’s all good to me.
I saw this pizza on Man Vs. Food – it’s called the Grand Sicilian. This mountain of a pie weighed in at 14 pounds and had high crusts which allowed you to pack in more ingredients. All the ingredients wereof course topped with a healthy amount of cheese. Adam Richman described it perfectly, “it looks like a regular pizza that got hit with gamma rays”.
The second pizza I’ve picked out is also from Man Vs. Food. It’s a lot simpler than the last to make, but looks just as delicious to eat. What makes this different to your run of the mill pizza is that cheese is applied before the sauce. What I hear you say?! But as my hero explains, it melts into the dough, it also prevents the sauce making it soggy. Once the sauce is applied, more cheese is put on top – so it’s not totally weird then.
The last is from Pizza Hut. While I love the crust stuffed with cheese idea, this just blows it out of the water. Their latest idea is stuffing the crust with a whole hot dog sausage! That’s enough to induce a pizza coma heaven for me.
