Christmas is rolling in fast and the spirit of goodwill is flowing more than the mulled wine. It is the season where it is better to give than to receive and we are looking at exactly that. Christmas brings out the charitable side in everyone and this includes celebrities. A perfect example of this is the Macmillan celebrity Christmas stocking auction.
The auction is always a star studded event that helps to raise a lot of money and the profile of the charity. It works by the celebs putting together a stocking of gifts that they would want to get. This ranges from vacations to champagne to technological toys. The guests attending are then encouraged to bid on the stockings with all the money going towards Macmillan cancer support.
Here is a video from the 2009 event which managed to raise over £100,000.
The 2010 event managed to raise a staggering £174,000 for charity and included stockings from Nicola Roberts, Sting, Ricky Gervais, Christian Louboutin and Twiggy. Not content with resting on their laurels Macmillan are hoping that this year will be their biggest event yet.
The auction will take place at the Grosvenor Square JW Marriott Hotel on Wednesday 7 December in a bid to raise over £200,000 for Macmillan. 80’s pop legend Rick Astley will be treating guests to a hit parade of classics including Never Gonna Give You Up and Together Forever. Rick will be joined by Macmillan Stocking Auction host and Macmillan Ambassador Magic 105.4 presenter Neil Fox.
With the theme of this year’s event being ‘a touch of gold’ each of the dream stockings will contain an item of gold as well as high end luxury holidays and money can’t buy experiences. Other celebrities supplying a stocking include Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory, Sarah Harding, Denise Van Outen, Jenny Eclair, Arlene Phillips and Antonio Carluccio.
This is a fantanstic charity fundraising event that you should try and get involved with if you can, it is the season after all.
