If you’re stuck for something to do this weekend, then why not head along to Nailphilia – London’s first nail art exhibition. That’s right, a nail exhibition. Now I don’t always “get” art myself, and I think a lot of people might have a hard time seeing nail polish as art, though it has been branded as “the Art World’s smallest canvas”.
The show is brought to us by DegreeArt.com and Sweet Squared in collaboration with London’s top nail technicians and some of the fashion world’s most recognised names (including NYC’s Laruicci, who is responsible for Beyonce’s gold nail in her video for ‘Run the World’.
The nail world is an important part of the fashion industry, so it’s really no wonder that it is getting a large amount of recognition for some of the beautiful work it does. The aim of the show is to show the high levels of skill needed to create true nail art and not just sticking on one wishy washy coat of nail polish and hoping for the best.
While the main medium for the show is nail, a number of different mediums have been used in the gallery space including installations, photographs, films and prints.
If you feel like heading along, Nailphilia is running until Sunday 25th September at 12A Vyner Street, London. More information can be found on the DegreeArt website.
