Top tips for fabulous feet!

It’s the summer, which can only mean one thing – getting your feet out! Yes ladies, we’re talking walking barefoot along the beach and lazing by the poolside, sporting those oh-so-cute diamante flip flops.

However, if you want to proudly showcase your gorgeous tootsies, you’ve got to give them their fair share of TLC. Here are our hot tips for keeping your feet in tip top shape:

Keep ‘em clean!

Okay, so this is a bit of a no brainer. By keeping your feet squeaky clean, you are keeping infections and other nasties at bay.

Be sure to wash your feet in lukewarm soapy water at least once a day. Try to avoid soaking them for long periods of time, as this can have a scarily drying effect on the skin. Instead, wash gently and dry your feet off thoroughly afterwards, paying particular attention to the bits in between your toes to get rid of any bad stuff that may be lurking in any nooks and crannies!

Moisturise

You moisturise the rest of your body, so why should your feet be treated any differently? Gently rub some moisturiser into the entirety of your foot, except between your toes. Moisturising regularly will keep the skin smooth and chase away any dry skin that may be lurking.

If you do get some tough dry skin, gently rub it off with a pumice stone or skin file. However if the hard skin is over a joint, seek the help of a chiropodist as pumicing over a joint isn’t recommended.

Protect

Remember: prevention is better than cure, so the best way to cure infections and other scrapes is to protect your feet against them!

Be careful at places like pools, rivers and lakes, as there can be tonnes of hidden bacteria around just itching to infect your feet. If you can, wear flip flops to protect your tootsies against these nasties, and once again make sure you wash and dry your feet thoroughly afterwards.

It’s also import to wear good shoes, too. Tight shoes that aren’t breathable can lead to increased sweating, which creates an ideal breeding ground for bacterial and fungal infections. Give your feet space to breathe by taking your shoes off when you aren’t walking, and remember to dry between your toes.
